Question:

If I want to migration hundreds of Oracle DBs, is it possible to automate/scripting the migration steps from the migration portal?

Answer:

The extraction script can extract multiple schema definitions at the same time.

_____

Question:

What is the maximum instance size CPU's - Memory available in CDS?

Answer:

Max instance Size - m5.12xlarge vcpu - 48 memory - 192 GB. For higher instance class/type request please reach out.  However, there is no restriction on Instance Type as long as they are provided by AWS as EC2.

_____

Question:

Does EDB Postscript support foreign key for partition?

Answer:

Postgres 11 supports foreign key for partitions.

_____

Question:

Does it support wrapped PL/SQL?

Answer:

You can use EDBWrap, EDB*Wrap is a command line utility used for obfuscation. Details can be found here.

_____

Question:

Can databases be deployed in us-west-2 (Oregon)?

Answer:

Currently, we have CDS available on us-east-1, us-west-1. If we have a demand for any particular region we can add the region easily.

_____

Question:

Can data be transferred continuously during a migration, instead of a one-time load?

Answer:

CDS supports online and offline migrations to the CDS instances. Please reach out to cds-help@enterprisedb.com for further details.

_____

Question:

Can EDB be deployed in private subnets within a VPC?

Answer:

We can provide an option to deploy in private subnet. Reach out to us with the use-case and we can help.

_____

Answer:

Usually, it is installed on the user’s machine as a local client.

_____

Question:

Do we have multi-master across regions to load balance read/write traffic in different regions apart from read replicas?

Answer:

Multi-master replication is currently not available in CDS, but EDB provides it as part of the standard EDB Postgres Platform.

_____

Question:

Is the cluster (both master and read replica) limited to a single region boundary in AWS?

Answer:

Currently, it is limited to a single region. Master and replica by default spawn in different AZ’s. Cross-region replication will be available shortly.

 _____

Question:

Will EDB support multi-master replication across regions in AWS for load balancing the read-write traffic?

Answer:

Multi-master replication is currently not available in CDS, but EDB provides it as part of the standard EDB Postgres Platform.

_____

Question:

If I need to modify the source code with hooks, is that allowed in the cloud?

Answer:

The Postgres source code cannot be modified in the cloud.

_____

Question:

From which server do we run the MTK? Can you show how this is connecting to Oracle and EDB’s Cloud?

Answer:

MTK can be run from the DBA workstation. It does not have to be run on the Oracle server or the Postgres server.

_____

Question:

Do you support Oracle Virtual Private Database?

Answer:

Yes

While migrating does the data comes to a local laptop and then goes to CDS?

Answer:

No - it gets copied from source to target without intermediary storage.

_____

Question:

What is the maximum allowed backup retention?

Answer:

The Backup Retention field is used to specify the number of backups that should be stored for the selected cluster.

It can be from 1 - 1000. A manual snapshot or a backup can be retained as long as a user wants. It will not be part of the normal retention policy.

_____

_____

Question:

What is the biggest difference between the free AWS DMS tool used to migrate schema to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and the EDB migration portal used for schema migration to EDB cluster?

Answer:

The AWS tool attempts to translate the stored procedure from PLSQL into PLPGSQL; EDB Postgres has a native implementation of PLSQL.

_____

Question:

Can the EDB Migration Tool deal with retry data migration if it failed in the middle?

Answer:

Yes

_____

Question:

Is there a plan to support similar deployment/hosting in Azure?

Answer:

Yes, this is planned for Q4 2019.
