Question:

Data at rest - we are using EDB/ARK but need the pg database data volume to be encrypted and FIPS compliant NOT certified, EDB uses LUKS which is not FIPS certified. On the other hand, AWS volume encryption is FIPS certified, we can use that but how do we tell ARK we are using AWS encryption?

Answer:

Upon request, EDB will provide step by step instructions to customers.

Concerning data in transit, how can we tell if EDB/PG is using openssl?

Answer:

Ark uses the local OpenSSL version for encryption. Please contact us and we can work with you

Can EDB give guidance on compliance with DISA STIG security requirements?

Answer:

Question:

Do you have any practical guides on implementing column level encryption?

Answer:

We recommend using pgcrypto. Bruce Momjian has done some work on external key management (http://momjian.us/download/pgcryptokey/) and on the use of cryptographic hardware (https://momjian.us/main/writings/crypto_hw_use.pdf).

Any comments on handling backups in a secure setup?

Answer:

We recommend keeping the backup files in an encrypted environment.

Answer:
