We hope you had a chance to join us for the webinar!!   If not, don't worry!

You can view the webinar via the link below. Be sure to check out the Q & A Session too!

Q & A SESSION:

__________________

Question:

Is there a Windows version?

Answer:

Yes - we will present ‘Installing EDB Postgres on Windows’ in 2 weeks!

_____

Question:

Why is Linux a better platform for Postgress/containers vs Windows?

Answer:

I don’t think Linux is necessarily the better platform, but it is a lot more popular for Postgres, so there are more proven best practices.

_____

Question:

Is there a performance cost for utilizing containers?

Answer:

Containers have a minimal performance impact. If you need to tune OS parameters like dirty buffer flushing, then that's not available in Containers.

_____

Question:

Will you be sharing the corresponding Kubernetes deployment.yaml file, to deploy these containers on K8S?

Answer:

Please take a look at the webinar Running Highly Available Postgres Databases in Containers where we discuss YAML files.

_____

Question:

How can one upgrade from pg11 to pg12 and what about extensions like PostGIS?

Answer:

Check https://www.enterprisedb.com/downloads/edb-postgres-advanced-server where we provide EPAS containers that include PostGIS.

_____

Question:

EDB replication not working on Windows Server 2012, is there any online video guide to follow for the Postgres DB replication?

Answer:

Unfortunately, we don’t have that video yet.

_____

Question:

Is there a URL for Docker login?

Answer:

No, The docker login is available from CLI.

_____

Question:

What are major differences between as-list and prod image?

Answer:

AS-LITE does not include EFM (HA) or the PEM agent (Monitoring)

_____

Question:

Did you develop your own Kubernetes operator? How do you manage HA, is it database HA or pod HA?

Answer:

Yes - we are planning to release it on September 27, 2019

_____

Question:

If you have developed your own operator, how does your operator compare with Zalando, Crunchy Data,  and other operators?

Answer:

Please take a look at https://www.enterprisedb.com/blog/discussion-high-availability-options-postgres-containers where we present a detailed analysis.

_____

Question:

Are any EDB customers using Containers in Production?

Answer:

Yes. Please contact us to discuss possible references.

_____

Question:

So can a Ks8 cluster manage Postgres master/slave replication - automatic failovers etc?

Answer:

Yes - that is fully supported. Please take a look at the webinar Running Highly Available Postgres Databases in Containers.

_____

Question:

Does EDB Adv Server support Master-to-Master replication? If yes, is Master-to-Master supported in container?

Answer:

EDB Replication Server supports master-master replication. It will be available in containers early 2020.

_____

Question:

When should we avoid using PostgreSQL in containers?

Answer:

Very high TPS databases benefit from tuning parameters that are only available on bare metal or in virtualized environments

_____

Question:

Does all this apply to PPAS, not just Postgres? I want to abide by PPAS Operator but all I hear is Postgres references. PPAS is not Postgres nor vice-versa.

Answer:

Everything that we showed today works with EDB Postgres Advanced Server (and PostgreSQL).
