Technical Alert Details
TECHNICAL UPDATE EDB Postgres Replication Server 7.0 (Limited Availability) version 2
WHAT’S NEW This announcement is notifying you of a new software release: EDB Postgres Replication Server 7.0 (Limited Availability) v2. EDB Postgres Replication Server is a streaming logical replication solution available for PostgreSQL and for EDB Postgres Advanced Server.
This Limited Availability release is best suited for customers requiring specific capabilities of the software for production use. The EnterpriseDB Limited Availability program provides qualified customers with production use and support similar to a General Availability release. Please contact your EDB sales representative for more information on participating in the Limited Availability program.
EDB Postgres Replication Server 7 is significantly different in its architecture, usage, and capability than the current EDB Postgres Replication Server 6.x. The major architectural advance is the incorporation of Apache Kafka message streaming for replicating changes between databases and Apache Zookeeper configuration management. Together these provide a higher performing and more resilient logical replication solution.
Highlights of this release include:
Introduced new command to reload configuration changes at runtime. This will help load changed values without bringing down the EPRS service.
Introduced new command to shutdown EPRS server to enable planned shutdown with ability to control failover to other EPRS servers.
Support for offline snapshot via pg_basebackup utility.
List commands has an option to view the output in JSON format. The listserver command now also displays the status of the EPRS server (Running, Stopped or Not Accessible).
Support for filter rule containing a single modulus operator (@ and %)
Support for SCRAM authentication for PostgreSQL/EDB Postgres Advanced Server.
Certified PostGIS support.
Support for EPAS 9.6 Ora-Style partition tables.
Customer Bugs Resolved:
Exit status of runRepCLI.sh need to be non-zero in case of error
Issue in create publication that leads to snapshot failure. [NX-1256]
TELL ME MORE For customers currently using EDB Postgres Replication Server v6.x, which is the current stable and Generally Available release, and are considering v7.0 please be aware that the following features are not available:
Management User Interface
Column level filtering
Update/Update and Insert/Insert conflict management
Option "tablenamemapping" is supported only when the target subscription is created (via joinpub command) in Read-only mode (-nodetype R).
JSON format output is not applicable to -listkafkaacl command.
A non-admin user cannot execute createpub, joinpub and startstreaming RepCLI commands
Only a single modulus operator can be present in filter rule. No other operator can be used in the same filter rule which contains a modulus operator.
With the default configuration options, Snapshot might fail in a high-latency cross-region AWS cluster. The work-around is to increase the request.timeout.ms time in consumer.properties e.g. to 120000, and then perform Snapshot.
