Technical Update

Postgres Enterprise ManagerⓇ (PEM) 7.5

WHAT’S NEW

This update is notifying you of a new software release Postgres Enterprise ManagerⓇ (PEM) 7.5. PEM is an enterprise management tool designed to assist database administrators, system architects, and performance analysts in administering, monitoring, and tuning PostgreSQL and EnterpriseDB Postgres Advanced Server database servers. PEM is architected to manage and monitor anywhere from a handful, to hundreds of servers from a single console, allowing complete and remote control over all aspects of your databases.

Highlights of this release includes:

  • Support for monitoring PostgreSQL 11 & EDB Postgres Advanced Server 11

  • Added a geometry viewer that can render PostGIS data on a blank canvas or various map sources - Added a geometry viewer in the query tool, which is capable of rendering the PostGIS data on a blank canvas or various map sources.

  • Support for PostgreSQL 11 & EDB Postgres Advanced Server 11 as the backend database server for the PEM Server

  • Use of PgBouncer as a connection pooler to increase the number of database servers that a single PEM instance can monitor - PgBouncer (1.9.0+) can be used as a connection pooler between the PEM backend database server and the PEM Agents. PEM Agents can use a single database user to connect to the PEM database server instead of dedicated database users, as was the practice in earlier PEM releases.

  • Exclude specific mount points from the disk-space probe - Exclude selected mount points explicitly for the disk-space probe on a specific host. (PEM-796)

  • Save the treeview state periodically, and restore it automatically - Save the treeview state periodically, and restore it automatically when re-connecting the database server, or refreshing the browser page

  • Added shortcuts for View Data and the Query tool to the Browser header bar - Added shortcuts for View Data and Query tool to the Browser header bar to quick access.

  • Added optional data point markers and mouse-over tooltips to display values on graphs on the real-time dashboards - Added optional data point markers and mouse-over tooltips to display the values on the graphs on the real-time dashboards, which can be enabled/disabled from the preferences dialog.

This release also includes fixes for the issues:

  • Can't debug function and procedure in a package using a non-superuser role (#PEM-724, #569062)

  • Fix support for the CLOB datatype in EPAS (PEM-918, #761853)

  • Allow to enter the floating values for the threshold fields in Alerts configuration window  (PEM-1004, #775364)

  • User can not save password when connecting to server (PEM-1330 , #792298)

  • Allow to install on PostgreSQL/EDB Postgres Advanced Server version 9.4 or lesser (PEM-1350, #796149)

  • Release the connections for the connected servers on logout (PEM-1431, #807009)

  • Fix auto scrolling issue in debugger on step in and step out (#779956)

  • Purge connections from the cache on logout (#807009)

  • Ensure that refresh button on the real-time dashboard at database level should refresh the table

  • Fix handling of backslashes in the edit grid

  • Ensure queries are no longer executed when real-time dashboards are closed

  • Fix logic around validation and highlighting of Sort/Filter in the Query Tool

  • Ensure auto-complete works for objects in schemas other than public and pg_catalog

  • Ensure changes to Query Tool settings from the Preferences dialogue are applied before executing queries

  • Swap the Schema and Schemas icons and Catalog and Catalogs icons that had been used the wrong way around

  • Rename the 'SQL Editor' section of the Preferences to 'Query Tool' as it applies to the whole tool, not just the editor

  • Cleanup files for the in-active sessions periodically

  • Case sensitive issue for column lag_MB in probe Standby servers lag behind the master by size(MB)
